Delete your account
If you still have the app installed
The fastest path is from inside Maybe itself. It runs the same deletion job server-side as the email path below; you just don't have to wait for us to reply.
- Open Maybe on your phone.
- Tap Settings (bottom-right tab).
- Scroll down and tap Delete account.
- Confirm. That's it — the deletion job kicks off immediately.
If you no longer have the app installed
Email us. Send from the address you used to sign up so we can confirm it's you without needing extra verification steps.
Send a request to:
support@trymaybe.socialSubject: Delete my Maybe account. We respond within two business days and the deletion completes within seven days of confirmation, in line with GDPR / CCPA timelines.
What gets deleted
- Your profile — display name, age, gender, bio, interests, filters.
- Your photos, public and hidden, from our S3 bucket.
- Your Cognito identity — you can sign up again with the same email, but it's a fresh account.
- Your cryptographic keys — identity key, signed prekeys, one-time prekeys.
- Your threads and messages, on both sides. People you had conversations with will see those threads disappear too — there's no way to surgically retain "their half" of an end-to-end encrypted exchange.
- Your session history — the rotating Bluetooth IDs your phone broadcast and observed.
The full job completes within seven days. Most of it runs within seconds; the seven-day window covers backup retention and any cleanup that has to happen on dependent services.
What we keep, and why
Two narrow categories survive deletion. Both are anonymized — they no longer point at you as a person — but they're worth being transparent about because the privacy policy mentions them too.
Anti-abuse signals
If you were banned, or if your account was associated with someone who was, we keep hashed versions of the signals we used to detect that — canonical email, device fingerprint hash, IP. These let us recognize ban-evasion attempts when someone tries to sign up again with a slightly different email or a fresh install. The hashes do not contain your identity; they are inputs to a one-way function. Retention: two years.
Aggregate logs
Some access logs (HTTP request lines, CloudFront edge logs) contain your IP and user-agent at the moment of the request. These rotate out on AWS's standard log retention windows (typically 30 to 90 days) and are not joined to your account after deletion. We don't go through historical logs to scrub them, but we also don't index them by your account.
Got a question first?
If you're on the fence — maybe you want to change the email on file instead of deleting, or you want a copy of your data before you go — write us at support@trymaybe.social and we'll walk through the options. Deletion is permanent; there's no rush.
