Terms of Service
Who you have to be
You must be 18 or older to use Maybe. By creating an account you confirm that you are at least 18 and that the information you provide is your own and accurate.
Your account
- You are responsible for the security of your account. Don't share your password. Enable 2FA when it ships.
- One person, one account. Don't create duplicates.
- You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Privacy → Delete account.
What you can and can't do
Maybe exists for people to meet other people in real life. While using Maybe you agree NOT to:
- Harass, threaten, dox, or stalk anyone.
- Send sexual content to anyone who has not affirmatively asked for it.
- Pretend to be someone you're not. Catfishing is a permanent ban.
- Use Maybe to scam, solicit, advertise, or otherwise sell things.
- Reverse-engineer, scrape, or otherwise abuse the API or the BLE protocol.
- Use Maybe if any law where you live forbids you from doing so.
We may remove accounts, threads, or photos that we believe in good faith violate these terms or risk harm to others. We almost always try to give a warning first; for severe violations (CSAM, threats of violence, doxxing) we don't.
Reports and moderation
Any message in Maybe can be reported. When you submit a report, the relevant message ciphertext plus the keys to decrypt that specific thread are sent to our moderation team for review. Outside of a report, moderators cannot read messages.
Decisions about reports are final but can be appealed once by replying to the email you received about the action.
Content you contribute
You retain ownership of the photos, bio text, and other content you put on your profile. By posting it you grant Maybe a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, transcode, and display it to the people we're authorized to show it to (you, the people you're in conversation with, and our moderation team if reported).
We do not use your content for training machine-learning models, do not sell it to third parties, and do not use it for advertising.
Encryption — what it does and doesn't protect
Conversations are end-to-end encrypted. Maybe cannot decrypt them. We can, however, see:
- Who is in a conversation with whom.
- When messages were sent.
- The length of each message.
- Profile photos, names, ages, bios, and interests — these are not encrypted.
If you lose access to your phone, your conversation history is not recoverable from our servers. We don't have the keys.
No warranties
Maybe is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, to the maximum extent permitted by law. We try hard to keep the service up and your data safe, but we can't guarantee that.
Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Maybe is not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of your use of the service.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When we do, the "Last updated" date above will change and a notice will appear in-app. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance. If you don't accept, delete your account.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
